What we’ll be talking about next week

Next week we’re hosting a free webinar all about federal programs to help finance TOD. If you haven’t already, register to join us for the conversation.

One of the most popular programs that we will discuss is the Transportation Innovative Financing Infrastructure Act, or TIFIA. TIFIA was created to provide credit assistance in the form of direct loans, loan guarantees, and standby lines of credit rather than grants to transportation projects of national or regional significance. A great overview of the TIFIA program is available from the Build America Bureau.

TIFIA has long been used for building transit. Since the passage of the FAST Act in 2015, however, TIFIA funds can now be used for certain transit-oriented development projects, too. Eligible project elements include property acquisition, utilities, open space, site preparation, pedestrian and cycle facilities, and the demolition of existing structures among others.

To learn more about this and other TOD financing tools, join us and LOCUS, a program of Smart Growth America, for “A crash course on federal TOD financing programs” next Thursday at 1:00 PM EDT/ 10:00 AM PDT. Sign up and learn more about TIFIA, TIGER, RRIF and more!
