Last week we highlighted Capturing the Value of Transit, a report that discusses several value capture strategies including special assessment districts, tax increment financing, joint development, and development/impact fees.

This week we’re featuring two resources that get more specific on details related to financing for housing or infrastructure in TOD. Filling the Financing Gap for Equitable TOD, published by Enterprise and LIIF, discusses the partners needed for building equitable TOD in addition to challenges and opportunities that come from using specific tools to finance affordable housing near transit.

And Infrastructure Financing Options for Transit-Oriented Development published by the EPA, puts together a “comprehensive guide of tools and strategies for financing and funding TOD Infrastructure”. Both papers feature dozens of tools you can use in your projects to finance both housing and infrastructure on TOD properties.

Upcoming webinar: Livable Transit Corridors

The Transportation Research Board will conduct a webinar on Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM EST on Report 187: Livable Transit Corridors: Methods, Metrics, and Strategies.

The planning method presented in the handbook was developed by studying more than 350 transit corridors throughout the U.S., and offers an operational framework for defining and assessing livability to provide clear guidance for corridor-level visioning and planning. A set of analysis tools was developed to identify corridor livability strengths and needs, and recommend paths to implementation. This webinar will examine the potential for transit access, land use, and transportation integration, and a stakeholder-driven set of assessment and implementation tools to improve livability in transit corridors.
