Developer goes to the state to avoid city deal

South of The Loop in Chicago, a developer is eyeing the rail yard across from Soldier Field as the site for the city’s next mega development. The project, called One Central, has been the talk of the town and is in the middle of big discussions about what role the developer, the city, and the state play in building a major transit hub.

A recent update to the city’s TOD policy puts a new focus on equitable development in a city that has seen stark differences in outcomes based on zip code.

Major bus corridors chosen for expanded TOD policy

In Chicago, the groundwork is being laid to expand the city’s TOD policy regulations from the initial two heavy ridership corridors to eight that encompass 20 different bus routes. The policy will allow denser developments with less parking in proximity to select stations.
